About MyCigarPurses.com

These purses are hand made by me:) I buy original discarded wooden cigar boxes, some are covered with interesting and beautiful cigar paper, some are natural wood and most still carry their original wonderful cigar aromas. I have several Cuban boxes but they tend to be more austere and not as detailed as the others I find. The boxes I have carefully chosen are in the finest condition, however, there may be some slight flaws due to normal handling by those who partake in their original contents.

All boxes have at least 3 coats of polyurethane and sometimes more, over the original design as well as over the adornment I have added. I am picky about the boxes I start out with but even then, several things can go wrong in the process. Some boxes get thrown away before I finish or, unfortunately, when am almost done. Lids warp, or worse, come off; pictures fade or discolor during the artistic process and sometimes the idea I had just does not turn out how I wanted it to.

The paper that covers many of the boxes is usually very pretty and so I only put designs on the back and let the original cigar ad/art stand on its own. I think it looks silly to have the lid upside down and so all my boxes open from the bottom. I put secure brass closures on most; and the ones with bead closures have been tested to make sure they are secure. I have not found hinges that work well for the paper boxes with out a lot of extra adjustment so to keep my costs down those hinges are still just paper and therefore somewhat delicate. I replace the hinges and closures on wooden boxes if the original clasp or hinges are not secure.

Most of the wooden ones will hold up to heavy use but the paper ones are not as rugged. All purses come with a tassel, mirror, and feet when appropriate. Let me know if you have tips or suggestions for a better product.

I maintain my own web site as well as make the purses. You might be able to guess I am a novice at that part but I make every effort to keep it up to date and make sure the pictures and descriptions are accurate. Sometimes I make mistakes and sometimes I get a little behind, so if you see something that does not make sense, I probably did it in the wee hours of the morning and won't be offended if you let me know. My friends keep telling me not to quit my day job so if the pictures look are a little blurry, they probably are and it was probably really late when I took them. That 'sharpen' button in Photoshop can only do so much:)

If you don't see one you like, call or email me and I might have something in the works that you do! I have over 100 empty cigar boxes in stock waiting to be transformed. Let me know what you think, I am sure that you have lots of ideas or maybe some feedback. I regularly receive really nice notes from people who are not interested in buying but have admired my work and sometimes that is just as nice.
